Clear Vision Corners

As Bend, and all of Central Oregon, continue to grow exponentially, keeping our neighborhoods safe is subject worth noting.

Our municipalities are overwhelmed trying to keep up with influx of new residents and the demands on existing infrastructures.  Unfortunately, there is not currently staff available for many code enforcement duties such as clear vision corners.  So, this safety measure falls on its residents to be responsible for our communities.

What is a clear vision corner?

A clear vision corner is a triangle established at the corner of any property adjacent to intersections of public or private streets, alleys, etc.  Within this clear vision area, obstructions to vision shall be cleared of plant material.  Plants must not exceed 2’ in height. Existing trees must be limbed to minimum of 8’ above the curb resulting in 6’ of clear vision for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. New trees within the triangle are not permitted in many cases. The triangles vary depending on street width, speed and other configurations.

I’ll bet we can each identify a challenging intersection within our neighborhood.  Please share this information with your friends and neighbors to keep our community safe and enjoyable.  If you need more information, please contact your city development office.
